Sustainability & Community Impact
At Alor Liveaboard Diving, our business is built upon the pristine beauty of the Alor archipelago. We recognize that we are not just operators, but stewards of this fragile and irreplaceable ecosystem. Our commitment to sustainability is not an afterthought or a marketing slogan; it is a core operational principle integrated into every aspect of our business, guided by the Indonesian philosophy of Tri Hita Karana—harmony among people, nature, and the divine. As part of Juara Holding Group, we are dedicated to pioneering a model of regenerative tourism that leaves Alor’s environment and communities stronger and more vibrant than we found them.
Our Environmental Commitments
We actively work to minimize our footprint and contribute to the conservation of Alor’s world-class marine biodiversity.
- Carbon Offsetting Program: We acknowledge the environmental cost of travel. We calculate the carbon emissions from our guests’ domestic flights within Indonesia and the fuel consumption of our partner vessels for every trip. We then offset 100% of these emissions by investing in VERRA-certified carbon reduction projects, such as the Katingan Mentaya Project for peatland restoration in Kalimantan.
- Direct Marine Conservation Funding: A percentage of the revenue from every journey booked is donated directly to our conservation partners, WWF Indonesia and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) Indonesia. These funds support their on-the-ground work in the Alor-Pantar Marine Protected Area, including coral reef monitoring, anti-poaching patrols, and scientific research.
- Zero Single-Use Plastic Policy: We mandate that all our partner vessels are 100% free of single-use plastics. Guests are provided with personalized reusable water bottles. All amenities, from toiletries to food packaging, utilize sustainable, biodegradable, and locally sourced materials wherever possible.
- Strict Waste Management: Our vessels adhere to a strict ‘zero discharge’ policy. All waste is segregated, stored securely on board, and disposed of responsibly at designated port facilities in Kalabahi, far exceeding the minimum MARPOL requirements.
- Reef-Safe Practices: We provide and mandate the use of reef-safe sunscreens. Our dive briefings, led by our expert guides, heavily emphasize proper buoyancy control and a strict ‘no-touch, no-take’ policy to protect delicate corals and marine life.
Our Community Commitments
We believe that sustainable tourism must provide direct, tangible benefits to the local communities who call Alor home.
- Local Employment & Empowerment: We have a strict policy that at least 80% of the crew on our partner vessels must be Indonesian citizens, with a strong preference for hiring from local communities in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). We invest in training and development to help local staff advance into senior roles.
- Supporting Local Economies: We bypass long supply chains and source fresh produce, fish, and supplies directly from local markets in Kalabahi. This ensures our guests enjoy the freshest ingredients while the economic benefits of our operations flow directly into the local economy.
- Preserving Cultural Heritage: We facilitate respectful and authentic cultural interactions. We partner directly with women’s weaving cooperatives in villages known for their traditional Ikat textiles. We provide a market for their craft on our vessels, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the artisans, helping to preserve this vital cultural art form.
- The Juara Foundation: The philanthropic arm of our parent company, Juara Holding Group, actively supports community development in Alor. Our current focus is on education, providing funding for school supplies, books, and infrastructure improvements at a primary school in the Pantar Strait region.
Our pledge is to ensure that every Alor liveaboard diving journey is not only a trip of a lifetime for our guests but also a positive force for the conservation and prosperity of this extraordinary corner of the world.

Safeguarding Alor’s underwater wonders: our marine conservation efforts
Alor’s position in the heart of the Coral Triangle, an epicenter of marine biodiversity, makes its preservation paramount. This region, often called the Amazon of the seas, boasts over 76% of the world’s coral species and more than 3,000 species of reef fish. Our responsibility extends beyond mere observation; it’s about active protection. We
