Our Methodology — How We Evaluate Alor Liveaboard Diving Experiences

Our Curation & Evaluation Methodology

Our Curation & Evaluation Methodology

A recommendation from Alor Liveaboard Diving is not merely a suggestion; it is a guarantee of quality, safety, and excellence. Behind every curated Alor liveaboard diving journey is a rigorous, proprietary evaluation process we call the ‘Juara 100-Point Audit’. This methodology is what sets us apart and ensures that every partner vessel and service provider in our portfolio meets the uncompromising standards of the Juara Holding Group. We believe in full transparency, and we share our methodology so you can understand the depth of our commitment to your experience.

Our audit is not a one-time check. It is a continuous cycle of evaluation, feedback, and improvement, conducted personally by our senior team, including our Director of Guest Experience and our Lead Fleet Captain.

The Juara 100-Point Audit

Each potential and existing partner is scored across four critical domains. A vessel must achieve a minimum score of 90/100 to be included in our exclusive collection, with no critical failures in the safety category.

1. Vessel & Safety (40 Points)

This is the most heavily weighted category and is non-negotiable. We assess far beyond basic compliance.

  • Construction & Seaworthiness (10 pts): Evaluation of hull integrity, Phinisi build quality, engine room cleanliness and organization, and documented maintenance schedules.
  • Safety Equipment & Protocols (15 pts): Verification of SOLAS-compliant life rafts, EPIRB, satellite phones, comprehensive first aid and oxygen kits, and fire suppression systems. We conduct unannounced drills to test crew competency in emergency procedures, adhering to standards from the Indonesian Sea and Coast Guard (KPLP).
  • Crew Certification & Training (10 pts): We personally verify the credentials of the captain (minimum ANT II license), engineers, and dive guides (PADI/SSI). We also confirm that all crew members have completed Basic Safety Training (BST) and are enrolled in BPJS Ketenagakerjaan (national social security).
  • Navigational & Communication Systems (5 pts): Audit of modern radar, GPS, depth sounder, and AIS systems. We require redundant communication systems (VHF, SSB, Satellite).

2. Service & Hospitality (30 Points)

This domain evaluates the ‘software’ of the experience—the human element that defines luxury.

  • Crew-to-Guest Ratio & Professionalism (10 pts): We require a ratio of at least 1:1. We assess crew attentiveness, English proficiency, discretion, and their ability to provide intuitive, personalized service.
  • Culinary Program (10 pts): Review of menu diversity, ingredient quality and freshness (with an emphasis on local sourcing), chef’s training, and the ability to cater to complex dietary requirements. Wine and beverage lists are also evaluated.
  • Cabin Comfort & Onboard Amenities (10 pts): Inspection of cabin size, quality of linens and towels, brand of toiletries, ensuite bathroom functionality, air conditioning effectiveness, and overall cleanliness and ambiance of common areas.

3. Dive Operations (20 Points)

We scrutinize the entire diving process to ensure it is safe, efficient, and enriching.

  • Equipment & Facilities (10 pts): Inspection of rental equipment from top brands (e.g., Scubapro, Aqualung), regular maintenance logs, and air quality testing certificates for compressors. We assess the design and functionality of the dive deck and camera room.
  • Dive Guiding & Safety (10 pts): We evaluate the thoroughness of dive briefings, the guide-to-diver ratio (maximum 1:4), the guide’s knowledge of marine life and dive site topography, and their in-water management skills. Emergency oxygen must be present on all dive tenders.

4. Sustainability & Local Impact (10 Points)

A commitment to responsible tourism is mandatory for all our partners. This is a core value of Juara Holding Group.

  • Environmental Policies (5 pts): Audit of waste management systems, prohibition of single-use plastics, use of reef-safe sunscreens and cleaning products, and adherence to our strict ‘no-touch’ marine life interaction policy.
  • Community Engagement (5 pts): We assess the percentage of crew hired from local Indonesian communities (especially East Nusa Tenggara), the vessel’s policy on sourcing supplies from local markets, and their participation in or support for community projects. Details of our broader commitment can be found on our Sustainability page.

The Continuous Process

Our methodology is not static. It involves an ongoing relationship with our partners.

  1. Initial Vetting: A thorough review of all documentation, licenses, and insurance.
  2. Anonymous Audit: A senior team member joins a scheduled trip incognito to experience the service as a regular guest.
  3. Formal On-site Inspection: A comprehensive, multi-day inspection of the vessel and interviews with the crew.
  4. Annual Re-evaluation: Every partner is fully re-audited annually to ensure standards are maintained and to identify areas for improvement.

This exhaustive process is our promise to you. When you book with Alor Liveaboard Diving, you are booking with confidence, knowing that every element of your journey has been scrutinized and approved to meet the highest standards in the industry.
